Hike: Collegiate Peaks

Located in Central Colorado, and straddling the contentinal divide, the Collegiate Peaks are part of the Sawatch Mountain Range. Driving from Poncha Springs in the south to Leadville there is a continuous string of peaks from 13,000 to 14,000 feet in elevation. This part of the Sawatch Range provides the highest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks in the nation. Paralleling the Collegiates is the headwaters of the Arkansas River with some of the best kayaking in Colorado. Options are many for exploration, hike by day, soak in a hot spring, and kayak or raft the next morning.
