San Juan Mountains: Lizard Head

The Lizard Head Wilderness Area is located south-west of Telluride, in Western Colorado. Jointly managed by the GMUG and San Juan National Forests, and consisting of 41,309 acres of land. Telluride is a good option for your Base Camp with plenty of after or before the climb options. Dispersed camping is allowed within the WA. Outside Telluride there are several Forest Service campgrounds giving climbers and hikers many options for a stay. The Lizard Head (13,113 feet) is a volcanic spire with unstable rock features, caution advised.
