Camp White River National Forest, Rifle RD

Rifle is located on the Colorado River, on I-70 in Central Colorado. The district contains part of the Flat Tops Wilderness area, created in 1975 with 235,214 acres. The spark for wilderness land preservation started in 1919, when Arthur Carhart, a Forest Service landscape architect visited the Trappers Lake area and was impressed with the majesty of the undeveloped land. Rifle RD has two campgrounds:
